MP welcomes signing of Ngati Ranginui Deed of Settlement
Tauranga MP Simon Bridges has welcomed the signing of the Deed of Settlement for all historical Treaty claims of Ngati Ranginui today at Te Ranga battle site in Tauranga.
Today marks the 148th anniversary of the battle of Te Ranga. This action was the final battle for the war in Tauranga.
“Ngati Ranginui, along with other Tauranga iwi, suffered some of the worst grievances in New Zealand’s history. It is good to be part of a day that redresses the past and moves towards a positive future,” Mr Bridges says.
“This Government is committed to resolving all historical treaty grievances and we are making strong progress in the Tauranga region.
“I am optimistic about the opportunities for economic development in our area that will arise from the Crown’s financial redress to Ngati Ranginui.”
